| With Dell's im pretty sure most of them can restore back to factory settings.

If he has an i386 folder on the root of his drive (like most OEM machines do) he can make a disc.

Dude, you can make a image of your OS with N-lite.
http://www.nliteos.com/changelog.html
Now go make you a disc, and formate your pc when you want.
Be sure to get drivers also for your mother board,video & sound card *if it is not on board.
The key is not a problem. You can find it anywheres.
But the main question is, Did it come with a restore cd?
If answer is YES and you lost them, resort to N-lite
If your answer is NO.
Go to start menu all programs and look for something related to making a restore disc. You may have not known about this and need to make your restore discs.
*** Do not run this application unless you have at least 4 dvdr's or 8 cdr's
Personally i would use dvd+r's
