Is it really worth it?

I saw a blue ray burner in TigerDirect magazine and it was like 800$?

Wth? Is it really that good?

Get a cheaper BluRay burner. Yes, its worth it. It's better than DVD and HD-DVD. Plus, you can burn a shitload more on a BluRay disk than a regular CD-R.

currently i think no throught the fact that a blue ray disc can have more then 20GB so a blue ray writer is much more expensive then a DVD writer

Unless you have a specific need for it, it's a waste of money. Blu-ray has already won the format war over HD-DVD, it's only a matter of time now before Blu-ray starts to become mainstream and the drives will drop like crazy in price.
