please don't tell me to go to the programming section please.

i was thinking about learning (or continuing on learning) a programming language, seeing that i have a bit of time on my hands, and i was wondering what you guys think i should learn. i know a bit of C++, but i stopped last year after i had to return the library book and then someone else borrowed it! i was going to reborrow. Sad

anyway, do you think i should continue with C++, or learn C# or visual C++, or something different. also i'm probably going to use a little bit of vb.net this year so do you think i should get a head start on that, or just learn it as i go at school? i've got two weeks before school starts to start learning, so i'd just like to know what language would be the most useful, for even making little apps or something. i'd apreciate any help in deciding, and if you could even give a reference to a good book i'd apreciate that even more. =D

also the reason i'm not posting this in the the programming section is because some people there tend to like a certain programming language, but it might not be the best for others to learn, if you know what i mean (or don't).

If you're going to learn vb.net in school I'd get a jump on it. I was trying to learn 2 different languages at the same time and it got a bit confusing especially when I was better at C++ than VB, do I gave up on VB. I went to HTML only a month or so before we started doing it in school and I was ahead of everyone else.

My first programming language is VB6, but that was last year. Now I'm learning C++ and taking VB6 classes in school (my school don't offer C++ classes), for an easy A. I suggest you contine learning C++. Visual C++ and C++ is the exact same, but I suggest you get teh Visual C++ Express compiler, much eaiser to use than the one that comes with C++.
