There is no use for the Quad Core Proccesors yet, as there is NO program (no, not even crysis) that will push it to its full potential power and use all four cores. The best bet is Dual Core, you will get the same results for $100 cheaper.

When technology gets moar advanced, THEN it will be time to move up to things like DDR3 and Quad Core Processors.

Then there is no point in buying HHDs(Hybrid Hard drive), SSDs(solid state drive), or GPGPUs(GP=General Purpose, you should wikipedia this)?

Raytracers, anything encoding loves cores, folding proteins in the name of science, some games although we seem to be in the age of GPU bound. HL2 has some ridiculously well done multi-threading on it's latest engine revision and scales fantastically.

They had a semi-private benchmark that if you asked nicely in an email, they would send it to you. It was mainly showing off their new threading amazingness. Quad came close to double the FPS in most cases. Not surprising since the tests were obviously designed to be CPU bound, but it just goes to show how much it can help when you actually need the power. Physics is a big thing too, stuff like this will certainly see benefit.

For as cheap as they are, they are a steal. I can't fucking wait for the 8 core ones.

Wrong, Crysis utilizes multiple cores very well, don't talk shit when you don't know. Furthermore, I'd much prefer to put in a $100 investment for something that is twice as good in the long term.

I'm going with what the guy at Fry's said.
He told me to wait until Windows Vista gets more advanced, and THEN i could upgrade to the Q6600. He said that even games like Crysis wont utilize all of the quad core's power.

Crysis will happily use 4 cores, though it's far more GPU bound than CPU bound.

They are like $260 and by far the best bang you can get in the CPU field. Not to mention if you get a G0 stepping one, holy shit does overclocking await.

YES!
I think Lost planet too, cuz everytime I play it, a big screen of enjoy QUAD CORE or something shows up ^_^

it's very hard to get the B3 stepping one now. (they have been replaced, but ofcourse its still possible) B3 sucks wahaha Razz

Im so proud lol, overclocked my Q6600 2,4ghz to 2,7 XD with the boxed stock cooler (or what you call it) gonna try 3,0ghz later if its not too hot down there

if youre going to wait, wait for the new 45nm Quad core cpus.
Intel was going to release it in January, due to lack of competition in the marked (AMD DO SOMETHING) so Intel delayed the 45nm cpus..

Quad is better for Multitasking

Quad Q6600 2,4ghz vs Duo E6859 3,0ghz

as you see, manual multitasking, a normal quad core at 2,4ghz is better than the overclocker duo at 3,6ghz.

and mutli cpu render, the quad 2,4ghz is better than duo 4ghz.

But ofcourse in games Duo is best.. for now

I was gonna point out the many uses of multi-cores but slovach beat me to it.

There's no reason to get a dual right now if you can afford a q6660, why? Yes it may be clocked slightly lower than a dual of a comparable price, for starters that's why we have overclocking, and I'd like to see any game that couldn't run well on a stock Q6600, let alone a moderately overclocked one.

You also have 2 extra cores to handle background tasks which would speed up a game even if it was only designed for 2 cores.

Finally, if you need a bit more performance, you can crank up the clock speed a bit, but if you have a dual core, let's see you add cores to it.

Quad core is the way of the future, you'll need one sooner or later, why not go for one now and save the hassle?

If nothing else, put those extra cores to work with F@H, at least it'd be for a good cause

I guess i should have said i already bought the CPU and mobo and there is no chance i can return it...

Any ways... I got the Q6600 because when the time comes there is a program or game... ill be ready. Your C2D wont, and you will have to spend more money. So instead of me buying a C2D THAN a C2Q and wasting a bunch of money, i will just get a C2Q now and keep it for a longer period of time.

Anyways i think im changing the Power supply, since i heard it wasnt very reliable.
