| Firefox if you want a fast and full featured browser, Opera if you want to fit into the whole nerd clique that out of nowhere decided to worship an inferior browser for no apperent reason, even though Opera has been out for almost 13 years now. |

Opera has been out forever and everyone's ignored it because it sucks, the only reason it's even mentioned is a bunch of idiots on this site thought they could be cool by supporting an alternate browser, pathetic as it may sound.
Firefox+noscript ftw. |

Keeps pages from loading javascript unless you allow it, speeds up your browsing considerably and is much safer. It slows you down a bit when you first start using it but once properly configured works wonders. |

Opera is definitely far better than Firefox. It is in fact far faster as well, you just have to make a small settings adjustment:
Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Browsing -> Change to "Redraw Instantly"
As for features, Opera comes with pretty much everything. You don't need to waste time downloading shitty plug-ins you will only use once.
Also, since the above poster is ignorant, I would like to point out that Opera used to cost money (or you had the option of seeing advertisements), which is why it wasn't very popular among the general public.
That however changed a little while ago. |

The fact that it costs money is meaningless. Windows costs money yet it's the dominant OS. If people want something, they will pirate it. It is estimated over 98% of windows installations are pirated, so the fact that it cost money holds no water.
People like to say it's faster, prove it. Show me some benchmarks showing it loads pages faster. In an age of 20meg connections and quad core computers, I'd say you probably can't in any way notice it being any faster, you just like to think it is.
Firefox has more marketshare than IE, opera, or any other browser. In fact, it has more marketshare than all other browsers(with the exception of IE) combined. The fact that people already have IE and go out of their way to get firefox says something.
You say it comes with "pretty much everything", I call that bloatware. Let me add what plugins I need.
Opera is a stupid trend on CEF, I go to many other much larger hardware sites and nobody mentions it. It will go away eventually just like the whole Emma Watson craze. |

It is a valid statement. There are not very many easily accessible free OS (for the average user). Where as there are many free browsers.
Your ignorance is not welcome.

Opera is known for its speed. Besides, Firefox utilizes a fucking memory leak to store its information. Ever wonder why it slows down after a while? Ya, thats why.

You are so full of shit, get over yourself.
| Code: | Market share for November 2007

Firefox - 16.01%
Safari - 5.14%
Opera - 0.65%
Netscape - 0.60%
Mozilla - 0.09%

Lets see here:
Firefox Installer: 5.8mb
Opera Installer: 6.3mb
OMFG FUCKING BLOAT!

That is true, Opera really needs to continue development on its plug-in system.
However, once people see how shitty Firefox really is they will slowly start filtering over to Opera. More community base means more plug-ins. |

No, Firefox is currently the most popular browser. By that logic Windows is the alternative OS. Now that Firefox the most popular, suddenly everyone wants a new "alternative" browser, imagine that. Like I said, the whole blind favoring of Opera doesn't go beyond CEF.
Flyte, go ahead and cite some more wikipedia sources, just don't ever come on a real hardware forum doing that, you'll get laughed right back out. Those figures gave me a good laugh though
I don't even have anything against Opera, I just prefer Firefox, but everyone here has Opera shoved so far up their ass they don't realize when they do stupid things like call people fanboys when they are only using a browser because everyone else on the forum does. But just hope Opera doesn't gain any marketshare, otherwise you'll have to flock to a new browser. |
