Multiplying by zero and dividing by zero will give the same result. If x*0=0, then dividing would give us the inverse, which is still zero.

That goes with my theory:
Dividing by a positive = positive
Dividing by a negative = negative
0 = Not positive, not negative
If you divide by something that is neither positive nor negative, the result must be the opposite of something that is neither positive nor negative.
Opposite of 0=0
Anything/0 = 0 |
Yes finally someone who understands that. They taught us in school you can't divide by zero, uhh yeah you can, it's just zero. If one can't divide by zero, then one shouldn't be able to multiply by it either.

Actually, multiplying by zero gives zero but dividing by zero gives infinity. Divide n by a very small number and notice the answer tends to infinity. That's why on computers a divide by zero will often give something like 999999999, etc.
In fact, I believe dividing by zero is a mathematical fallacy except 0/0 which should give 1.
Anyway try drawing a y=1/x graph and notice at x=0 there is an asymptote where x values closely on either side tend to positive and negative infinity.

But that's just the way our current numerical system deals with it, which I find flawed. If division is the inversion of multiplication, then how can we say x/0= infinity, when 0 is the inverse of 0?

You can't actually divide by zero. I was treating zero as a number tending towards null.
In all maths calculations I do though (at school) whenever we get a divide by zero, that is the reasoning as to why it is infinity.

1*0=0
So multiplying by zero gives nothing... so the opposite will be everything.
