Well, ya... if you really wanted to make your game that secure.. then don;t make any major values client side... or code your game using java like runescape.
That way you won't have to worry about reverse engineering and memory editing... stupid flash game makers!

Yeah, agreed. That's the argument I used against my friend who said it was illegal.

So if you downloaded MapleStory you can claim it as your own memory and therefore can't be sued when you change the memory?

The memory on your machine is yours. You own it, not the company. The game you downloaded you do not own, the company that you got it from does. Reversing a game is illegal, hacking the memory on your machine is not.

but seriosly, CE is not illegal, but what you do can be.
E.g writing a assembler script that ends up packet floodign the server till it crashes, yes, that's illegal.
But simple stuff like editing your money, and the server is so stupid to actually believe that you have as much money as the client tells it, then not really. (unless it's a bank, or a official legal instance) |
i lol'd , you're cool

Personally, I don't agree with even the company owning the "game" (I can see them owning the game concept however), as all it truly is is a bunch binary numbers, and you can't own numbers.
If you can, I hereby copyright the following string of binary: 0100011001101100011110010111010001100101

It changes the data that is in your pc ; so , it's legal... But packed editing can be considered illegal...
So , if the data is in your pc = legal
if data is not in a pc that you owns = illegal

Ofc its legal.
Otherwise it would be like buying a pencil, but getting sued for opening it!
You can, other than cheating, fix bugs with CE. Yes, its quite hard but possible. You would have to be a Assembly mastermind

The written code is theirs, no reason for it not to be. Just because it's translated and read in binary on your machine doesn't mean they didn't make it.

I own this code
oh that was spam,
I think the law in these areas and how it is implemented is down to what countries laws you are living under,
a good lawyer and how the judge and jury are swayed by that lawyer,
the trouble is that they are making these laws up as they go along and trying to put paper author copyrights into the magnetic media field,
and though they could find stuff on your harddrive to prosectute you with the infomation in your ram is lost when you turn off your pc,
so unless they have bugged your pc and are saving all your running programs it dissapears out of existance,
well using cheat engine for games on your pc is legal just about everywhere, and where it isnt its hard to prove anything,
then again some would like to grass up maple story hackers from what I have seen

The written code is theirs, the compiled executable is not.
I hereby copyright the "Hello World" example. Anybody using it at all has to pay me 1$ Canadian.
