I tested Cheat engine out, I got four computers with 1 Vista, 3 Window XP.
Cheat Engine is totally incompatible with Vista.
If you are unlucky, it will just turn off and don't let you to.
If you are lucky, you can still use the Cheat Engine.
I'm surprised when I saw in wikipedia that say Cheat engine got two version, one for window xp and one for window vista, but I cannot find the 2nd version of teh cheat engine, just found one, Cheat Engine 5.3, I think it is for both version, so I downloaded.
Make it compatible with Vista by making it "use this program" compatible for Window XP, but I can tell you, it make no different if you are "lucky" (above). If you are unlucky, so maybe you can open it out.
I personally use it on Window XP, fully use, 100% no bug.
But when I'm using it with Vista, oh my gosh, many problems come.
The first problem is YOU CANNOT "NEXT SEARCH!"
Example, I searched 10, then the value changed to 9, so I must type 9 in the value and click next search, but when I clicked next search, it just come out nonsense, or nothing, or 40348952523, or 047274027402, just it is not the value i want to find, and some of them even ??.
This bug must be fix! Or I have to search one time, maybe it searched 1,099,000, then it changed, I need to search it all in the Addresses, THIS TAKE ME 5 HOURS, but my friend using Window XP just find the addresses in 5 minute, this is totally MUST-BE-FIX-BUG.
Grammar mistakes, sorry! English isn't my native language, sorry if you cannot read it, BUT FIX THE BUG IF YOU CAN! |

Speaking of the other version, is DBVM hard to use? I've never done dual boot or installed Windows in my life (my bro took care of that stuff). _________________

yes that method has been around since windows 95 up
its just a case of install the the oldest version first. then the next newest and so on,
so you could format
install :
widows 98
then
widows xp
then
widows vista
but to do it when vista comes preinstalled ???
the only way off the top of my head is to make a backup of vista,
install xp
then put your backup of vista back on
there will be a better way out there on the internets but as far as pre-installed windows I have no experience installing multi boots,
have repaired a few xp factory installs
tho
oh and the DBVM thing
that is quite a piece of work from the sounds of it _________________

Yeah i have not looked into that at all, and for the Vista to XP.
Your right on that you would have to Do xp first then Vista again. |

lingooi, did you go through the complete setup? Or did you just copy/paste the files to a specific folder? (if you did, there's your problem)
Anyhow, the problem you're describing looks like you're NOT using using CE with the administrator account. (Causing it to have no write access to the folder you installed ce to, making it fail writing the results to disk, failing to read it back properly, and just showing you random memory)
And i'm assuming it's the Official version of Cheat Engine.
The one you can download at http://www.cheatengine.org/download.php
any other download location may be a Uce (undetected CE) and yes, those only have a 5% chance of NOT rebooting vista when loading

Basicly as hard as putting in a disk in your drive, reboot, wait till the OS is loaded and CE 5.4+ will automatically make use of it (still need to get it to work as a bootable USB so you basicly can put it in a spare USB slot and leave it there forever, now you have to make sure that when the system starts the DBVM cd or disk is in the drive when it starts) _________________
