Try modding an existing engine / game.

Source (of Half Life 2 fame)engine is a good choice right now, and when the new Unreal comes out, that will be even better.

theres also an engine for oblivion which is really easy to use in my case. If you want to start from scratch ur gonna need a 3d drawing tool, knowledge of some major programming language, DirectX, and a LOT of help

lol i have tried editing scripts for like mugan chars buy thats about it
The game i wana make is sorta like that 1 papulats game from maplestory

actually theres much easier ways of doing this...

programs\engines and whatnot

you can dl (or pirate w/e..) some of these

Rpg maker XP (higly reccomended for 2d)
Ive seen some pretty crazy awesome stuff done in this because it has a script editor in the program so you can make your own scripts to do... well... nearly anything... also you can import your own gfx music and whatever... highly customizable and easy to learn easy to create near professional grade games too.

Magic Fps (good if you have patience)
i downloaded this... and thought it was crap...
but i only toyed around with it for 2 hours...
i guess if you learn you could do good with it..

thats all i got... so far..

there are good game making programs, so if u have no knowledge at programming u should start with game maker and then idk rpg xp?
if u do know a language so vb, c++ or something

Learn flash. programs you'll need is Flash macromedia mx get latest if can try trial version the program cost money you can look for cracks but im not sure if your allowed. lolz dont ask for them ill not support cracks i only use and give to friends lolz
