Cheat Engine

Hey, ever since I upgraded to version 5.4, I've been getting lots of errors like this one (while searching for a val for a game):

Scan error:thread 2:Access violation at address 004A2ED8 in module 'Cheat Engine.exe'. Read of address 7FDF1000

generally use of CE is hit or miss. If seaching for a val works, it generally will only work for a short while (?) I haven't been able to figure out if it works better if CE is loaded before a game starts or after. It's very fail-er-ific for me.

I've also had CE 5.4 give errors like this while running the CE tutorial!

try redownloading cheat engine. If you got it within the first 2 weeks of 2008 (or didn't download from cheatengine.org) then you may have a few bugs in there.

If that doesn't help. Is there any way you can make it reproduce each time ? (scan options? settings? etc...)

Also, you have a quadcore cpu? (seeing you have thread 2, and it counts from 0)
It might be a problem with separating the load, try going to the taskmanager , rightclick cheat engine.exe, choose "Set affinity..." and make it run on only 1 or 2 cores and see if the stability improves.

Hey,

I am using a quad core CPU, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600...

I redownloaded cheat engine directly from cheatengine.org and tried it again with the same results.

Making the change in the taskmanager that you suggested seems to have fixed the problem! At least, it hasn't failed since I've made the change... I'll try it with a few more games over the next couple of days. Thanks!

thanks, I now know where to look (the splitting up of scantasks probably splits the last region up wrong , not allocating enough mem, etc...)

I'll fix it as soon as possible (hate seeing the power of a nice quad core going to waste by limiting it to only one or 2 cores)
