Probably it is a multi-level pointer and You didn't find the static address yet. Check out the CE tutorial Step 8 to see how are multi-level pointers working.
And You can also try to use the pointer scanner. _________________

Thanks Geri
While I was waiting for an answer, I read some of the threads about the understanding of pointers.
Unluckily I can't use the "Find out what accesses this address", without making the application crash (I'm on a Windows 7 64-bit system).
So right now I'm using the Pointer Scanner, trying to cut down on all the results. Currently I'm at Level 7 having 75k results |

Which version of CE are You using? _________________

No, it's through Steam.
I'm using 5.6.1. On my 17 Point scanning, I have reduced it to 7715.
How many should I cut down to, before I can feel pretty sure that I can keep using the pointer? (ofc. 1 is ideal) |

You don't know it. It may happen that You will have 10 pointers which are good all around in the game, but it may also happen that none of the pointers will work all the time.
Btw. if You use the debugger and it is crashing AFTER it has reached the breakpoint, at least You still have some results. When the game is crashing, CE still has the info that it has found (e.g. register values).
Try to experiment with debugger features if You want to see which one is the most optimal.
Some games are detecting hardware breakpoints faster than int 3 breakpoints.
And it will always help if You use the "Try to prevent detection of the debugger".
It is always depending on the target process. There are different techniques to find debuggers and different countermeasures as well. _________________

Unfortunately it is crashing before the breakpoint :/
I have tried experimenting with the debugger features, but none of them is helping me getting to the breakpoint in "Find out what accesses this address". |

It will probably work with CE 6 already. It has more debugger options so You have much more possibilities too. _________________

Dark Byte is working on it day and night. Literally. It will be released soon enough.
Btw. the source code is always public. _________________

Hey there
I hope I'm allowed to ask a question, because I'm not quite sure about something in this tutorial.
First off: too bad that all pictures from the tutorial are offline :S
Anyway, I'm trying to make my own little Trainer for Torchlight, however, I have problems pointing out the pointer.
It tells me
>>00F5E682 - add [esi+000003C8],ebx
The Value of the pointer needed to find this address is probably 132C8EF0
When searching for the possible pointer value in Hex I get somewhat 127 entries with no statics, so I'm not sure which one to pick...
I also tried searching for 00F5E682 but get nothing useful there either.
Was there something I've missed or does this mean that there's no pointer? I can change the values [HP, Max HP, EXP ...] just fine, though I finally want to start making own CTs so I don't have to start searching all over again once I restart the application.
I hope someone can help me out
I'm using CE6.0 right now~ |

The pointer may be a multilevel pointer (explained in Step 8 in the tutorial).
00F5E682 is the address of the code, it has nothing to do with the pointer so You do not need to search for it. 132C8EF0 was probably the value of ESI.
Try to use the pointer scanner in CE, it will probably give You dozens of working pointers. _________________

If seen by sections step 8 is the very last "save the address in your CT and save yourself lots of hard work"
Too bad the pictures in this tutorial don't work >_<
It'd be easier to follow these instrucions if you knew which "value" is meant right here and what result you should get :/
But the example-values always change in this topic so you have no idea if it's related to the previous.
Anyway, I'm still stuck in the same place.
Pointer scanner, hum ... if it finds dozens of working pointers - how will I know which one I should pick?
Thanks for your help and thanks in advance for further help |

Hey! Can you help me? I got a prob.
When i find the code after find out what writes to this address (In this case 000001CC), and i type that in, you know in the search box, i get more than 180 addresses...
You say: Add the ADDRESS, but i usually get like 188 addresses.
Anyways can you help me? _________________
