I havent even been here for a day and I havent found a solution to my problem. Ive been trying to bare through the CE tutorial, and Im on the horrid step 3. when it says to choose 'unknown initial value' as a scan type..I dont have that as a choice for my scan type.

I have to disagree with this. The tutorials aren't horrid just because you are having a hard time, and if you need to bare through them, then quite honestly, you may be trying to get into the wrong thing here. CE, and the tuts were done very well. Challenging, yet well explained. Try redoing the tutorial with a clear head without the negative attitude towards it.
