Speed hack works only once - why?

So I have a game where the speedhack can be enabled, but only once, because if I try to uncheck the box, nothing changes, and no matter what speed I want to change it to, it never budges from the first speedhack speed.

The speedhack works in other games, and it does so on several computers, and v-sync and refresh rate settings both in and outside the game don't seem to affect anything. Quitting Cheat Engine also doesn't matter, it would seem.

Any ideas as to what I could do if I want to change the speed more than once?
