Cheat Engine

Ok, so I've been using CE for a while for speedhacks on a single player game (Darkest Dungeon 2) but as the title says, it crashes as I'm selecting the program. This has happened on the most recent version, and something similar happens on old versions like 6.3. The same crash happens when nothing but CE is running.

Here's what I did:

Disable windows antivirus completely, and that includes firewall, real time protection, reputation based protection, you name it.

Disabled any startup program that may interfere with cheat engine (like vanguard)

Used compatibility mode

Started as administrator.

Also cleared up my registry in the process.

What would be the next step to get it to work?

I have a long log here of events that the process went through but I'm afraid I can't interpret them, nor can chatgpt.

try the non sse version and see if that one does the same

What helps is sometimes disable high entropy aslr protection

So, I've found the non-SSE version and I was able to open the process list without crashing, but as I enable speedhack I get this error message:

I researched this and found a thread you replied to a user with similar issues where you said "[...]CE failed to open the process.
You need to disable the anti-cheat first" (can't post link to it though)

I reckon it's not the anti-cheat for this specific game, since it's offline and singleplayer, also because there's no other program that I can enable speedhack without encountering this error message.

There is a possibility it's still windows antivirus somehow, or maybe another game that has that foul 24hr even-when-closed anti-cheat. Any tips on how to look further into it? I can provide with images of my settings on windows defender or services currently running.

all I can say is that symbol enum has failed (getCurrentThreadID could not be found). This only happens on certain Proton version if you're using Linux, and when something 'protects' you from opening a process.

Also, delete speedhack3.lua from your autorun folder. it's not part of 7.5 and incompatible with 7.5.0
