How do I just type in the bytes in memoryviewer?

Apparently I'm supposed to be able to just start typing in the bytes according to my search findings when I looked this up, but it doesn't work, or I misunderstood something along the way. Instead, it takes me to the in-line code edit which expects code, not bytes.

How do I just type in (replace) the bytes I want in memoryviewer on the fly?

in the hexeditor part in the bottom click the bytes
