How do I cheat?

I am playing a game from steam call sands of salzaar and when I find my money values, Ii change them from 2801 to 10000 but it never changes in my game even after I buy or sell something. its not an online game and I've tried with my Wi-Fi turned off... I'm not terrible program savvy but other games vie used this on worked I can not see why this one wont. please help!
