Cheat Engine

So, I've had CheatEngine for years. It's worked great for me for any offline games I've ever needed it for, until about a week ago.

Here's what happens:

Step 1:

I start CheatEngine in Admin mode.

Step 2:

I attach CheatEngine to a process

Step 3:

I search for a value (typically money, health, mana, science, etc.)

Step 4:

After completing the first search (searching all values, not just float or 4 byte) I update the value in game.

Step 5:

Search again for the updated value, only to get 0 results. This has only been happening in .exe games, SWF/Flash are unaffected.

I've already re-installed CheatEngine, moved it from the Program Files folder, checked the folder permissions, run both the windows repair tool and ceregreset.exe. Nothing's worked. Any ideas?

Try the tutorial, which is an .exe game and see if it happens there as well (swf/flash games are .exe at root as well)

What scan options you do have set?
Right click on 'Writable' and select 'Scan all memory'.
Also, try turning off fast scan.

The tutorial seemed to work after checking the scan all memory option, however still isn't working in actual games.

Edit Edit: I know it shows the fast scan enabled in the screenshot, but I also tried disabling it to no effect.

As you can see on the Tutorial screenshots, the values are found correctly.

Yes, but not in the game. It doesn't work no matter what settings I use.

Edit: I managed to solve the issue by moving the CheatEngine .exe into whatever game folder I'm using it for. Not an ideal solution but it works.

Then your values are either not 4bytes or are encrypted.
Bottom line is, CE is working correctly.
