So why is there an option to add something to chrome when I click to download version 6.83?

It is a means of advertisement to gain some income for Dark Byte. You can ignore them, opt. out of the installer recommendations and such to simply install CE clean though. Or if you don't want to risk any of it, there is a non-installer version on the Downloads page.

I did ignore them and opt out of whatever things they tried to install. but they somehow got at least two things through. I uninstalled them using extra special means....

But still, it was crapware they installed. Not even good software in any sense of the word...
