I'm doing a custom fps for a local lan-group, and using CE's speed feature to test for pathing errors under artificially high resource-pressures.

But every time I toggle it on / off, it makes that annoying sound (windows sounds, error) and I can't find a way to shut that off.

Am I missing an option somewhere, or is this just the way it is?

I couldn't find one. As workaround: disable it in volume mixer or win settings.
Try to find out which does make the sound. F.e. beep would be a system sound, while speak runs from CE.
That is, if you don't need sounds in that application for other things. If it's the game itself f.e. But you wrote it's the windows sound, so that might be enough.
