So why not video games? |
they dont function as art in any sense of the term to either represent reality or to further understanding as a function in society or as a unifying cultural event in societies in a historical sense (time could change this, more likely the world will be fucked and realize video games as only entertainment as other aspects of the art world advance way beyond it)

no it cannot. once you start talking about the meaning of something abstractly and without reference to the actual object you are philosophizing about art and the actual thing is not a real artwork
