How rare is it that a push/pop instruction would change in a updating game? like change from a "pop eax" to "pop ebx" or "push ebp" to "push edi"

as rare as them if changing the number of parameters for a function (or changing compile parameters)

that's fine as long as that specific function doesn't update (if it contains offsets you use in your code you may as well use them)

Yeah, i've never seen it happens unless the whole function changes. I've seen games change their architecture more often though (32 -> 64bit)
