aoe2 display problem

I've created an executable for aoe2 that runs perfectly on full screen mode.

However if I run aoe2 in windowed mode, the executable crashes the colours of the game. The game runs as a process but I can't do anything with it.

I have windows 7.

Can anyone imagine what the problem might be?
