How do I cheat?

I bought the Witcher Enhanced Director's Cut version of the game on Steam last week. I played for 16 hours and then decided to use CE to get myself some more money.

I found the value and changed it, then exited CE, not saving anything. I played the game for about another 30 min or so and then I went to meditate to make some potions. As soon as the meditating had finished the game crashed. I tried it again and got the same results.

I'm REALLY basic when it comes to CE and mostly just follow vids. I'm looking for any help with this I can get.
