I am trying to use cheat engine for a game I have to add coins or reduce the coin price of items to buy. it worked for a while but now every time I try to do it the game restarts itself so it doesn't work, but I am not doing anything different than when it was working so I don't know what to do.

I don't think the game patched because it stopped working then worked again like once or twice then stopped working again. I'm new to cheat engine so I don't know what to do

What are the exact steps you are taking, and when exactly does the game restart, and what exactly does it do when it restarts?

Its shadow fight 2 and I open up cheat engine, click marmalade from the process list, type in the value of an item that I want to buy, click first scan, select all the addresses on the left, click the diagonal arrow to copy them to the bottom section, select all of those, click enter, then change the value to 0 or 1. when I go back in to the game it either just goes black and then starts up showing the developers logo like it would when I start the game, or it does the same thing but only when I click the button to purchase the item. I have tried it with 4 bytes and 8 bytes; when I try it with 2, cheat engine freezes and it says that its not responding.

I don't think you actually did what I assumed you did so let's just go through this one more time.

Question 1:
When you did the search for the first time, how many addresses were there?

Question 2:
How did you filter out the exact item from all those addresses?

Question 3:
How many addresses were left after the filtration process?

Please say that you actually did something for question 2 and have Q3 answer in single digit way lower than Q1.

Don't just immediately add all the results.

After you search, wait for the value to change in-game. Then after it changes, type the new value and click "next scan".

Continue to do that until you're left with ~1-5 addresses at most.

I don't know anything about filtering the addresses, I'm assuming its messing up because there are too many, but I was doing it that way because I saw several videos that showed it working that way.

Those videos are either..

A - By absolute newbies that don't know the first thing and shouldn't be telling others what to do.

B - Very specific tutorials for very specific situation where you don't need to rescan, this is rare.

You need to rescan to filter down the addresses until you find the right one (or two).

Run the cheat engine tutorial and finish the first 4 steps in it.

ok I just did the first 4 steps, how does that help me? how do I change the value in-game?? there is no "hit me" button in the game lol

In most cases you wait until the value changes in the game as it would normally. If you're looking for health, get hit or heal yourself. If you're looking for money, get more or spend some so the value changes. If you're looking for coordinates, move.

If you're looking for something more complex like engine/rendering/physics functions, then you're starting out way too hard and should try easier stuff.

But knowing what you're trying to do will help of course.
