I'm trying to hack an online browser game to increase the amount of in game currency. The value for currency on cheat engine is the color red. I'm assuming this means it is not possible for cheat engine to change these red values. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

if you mean it's red in the bottom addresslist, that means you're currently editing it.

anyhow, regardless of that, there is a 99.999999999999999999999999999999999% chance the webserver keeps track of your ingame currency, so when you buy something with it, it will tell you the correct amount of money, or disconnect you due to sync errors(and possibly ban)
