now i know the inspiration for Berserk
| Quote: | Then he saw mid the war-gems a weapon of victory,
An ancient giant-sword, of edges a-doughty,
Glory of warriors: of weapons ’twas choicest,
Only ’twas larger than any man else was
Able to bear to the battle-encounter,
The good and splendid work of the giants.
He grasped then the sword-hilt, knight of the Scyldings,
Bold and battle-grim, brandished his ring-sword,
Hopeless of living, hotly he smote her,
That the fiend-woman’s neck firmly it grappled,
Broke through her bone-joints, the bill fully pierced her
Fate-cursčd body, she fell to the ground then:
The hand-sword was bloody, the hero exulted.
The brand was brilliant, brightly it glimmered,
Just as from heaven gemlike shineth |

Just did a bit of googling:
One piece: 1997-present; 76 volumes
Berserk: 1990-present; 37 volumes
How could anyone even follow that bullshit story for 25 years? If an 18 year old started reading the series in 1990, he'd be a fucking grandpa right now!
One piece, which has a much more charming story, outpaces Berserk over 4:1 in releases, which is pitiful for a 25 year old story to go so slow.

I wouldnt want Berserk to go on forever, because the story has set up what will happen, and now we just wait until it finishes, it isn't planning to go on forever. Berserk would be good even just as a regular book, and the art would be really good even if it was just standalone, but together they make a really good story with the artwork supporting it really well.
the reason it goes so slow is because good things take time. anyone can shit out 10000 one piece volumes because the story is shitty and generic, and the art is simple as fuck. Im not looking for cheap entertainment with berserk, its a quality product.

Hey, hey, hey now! We had to read large parts of it in Latin class, circa 1990. I'm old, but I'm not that freaking old.

while it is true the art and story of berserk are on a whole other level than most comics, it is moronic to follow the manga. Like seriously, one piece is much more a better manga to follow simply because its releases are so often (21 page chapter every week) that it holds your interest, while rather berserks releases are so few and far between that you lose your attention and interest
and really, does it matter if the author puts more effort in the drawings? is it worth the wait? what i find great in the artstyle in one piece is the concept of minimalism combined with abstractionism, something that is completely absent for the 72 chapters of berserk that ive read so far.

I personally think its worth the wait. I dont read any other manga (like I dont follow any, Ive read some others here and there), so when Berserk comes around I get really excited. its true it does become hard to follow with such huge breaks in between, but I've reread the entire thing up to current about 3 times by now, so I know mostly whats happened by heart. and the reason its still fun to reread is to appreciate the art. I do enjoy minimalism art style, but not for manga, it just looks childish like a childrens picture book. for anime, minimalism can look really nice and clean.
plus something thats cool is seeing the art style evolve and improve over the years. the early artwork is not as great as the newer stuff which is amazing.
