Best ive ever played:
1. Super Mario World: most creative and complete mario game ever made
2. Super Mario 64: shows off that n64 can run 3d open world games with extremely smooth controls
3. Super Mario Bros 3: greatest level design of any mario game ever
Worst Ive ever played:
1. Mario Hoops 3 on 3: mario playing basketball, really?
2. Mario and Sonic at Winter Olympic Games: worst gameplay that ever had marios name slapped on
3. Mario Super Sluggers: horrible idea, boring game, 0/10 wouldnt play again
Is it just me or recent mario games are utter shit?

Super Mario RPG: not as known as it needs to be, i prefer it to any paper mario. gave the mario characters their personalities that they have now and has the most charm out of any mario game |

Ive played that, i couldnt stand the way the character seemed to move only in diagonals. Mario and luigi super star saga would be number four on my list if i included it in. It was a 20x better version of SMRPG with a hilarious story.

Mario 3 for sure!! 
And I'm totally with you on that, that the newest ones really aren't that great.
They need to get back to their roots, drop the 3d/3d looking, and do an oldschool 2d style mario for me to like em again. (Not entirely, at least just once for one game->)
Mario 4  Hey, it would be awesome if they did it! You have to admit!
