one of the best decisions i ever did in highschool was to pick different electives every year. i would always pick something new everytime, unlike most kids who do band every year and the next year in their foreign language.
In highschool, my electives were:
Japanese 1
Spanish 1
Latin 1
Intro into engineering and design
Zoology
Computer programming and interfacing
Botany
Sociology
Psychology
Child development
Speech
Etymology
JROTC
3d arts
Journalism
Intro into manufacturing
Web design
Biomedical science
Wielding 1
And i cant remember the rest lol
Of course, my school had 2000 students, so i had a ton of classes to choose from, but choosing a new elective every year instead of going into the next successive course led me to try many new things and kept me happy throughout highschool.

most high schoools have 2000-3000 students. unfortunately, most high schools do not offer that broad a range of classes to choose from as electives. i see what you're trying to say tho. also most schools have one elective all year meaning from freshman to senior he'd take 4 elective classes total. |
Where i live in indiana, you have to have 40 credits total for most basic diploma, but i graduated with the "academic honors dimploa" which requires 47, and 7 of them are required to be electives. I took a bunch of extra electives though, mainly because i was on track with my diploma and i still needed to fill spots in on my schedule. I graduated with 56 credits total, so i was in good standing lol.
And no, at my school we choose our classes by semester, not by year.

Pick sales and AP courses. You won't regret it.
Edit: The problem with what Clifford suggests is that it's hard to make it to a top tier university if you can't commit to one thing. They like to see commitment and 'passion' towards something, whatever that means when you're just a teenager.

i got two electives in grade 9 and one this year, the other slot being taken up by the mandatory Planning 10
next year I get two electives. I picked Skills Development as one because Im a lazy fuck and my understanding of skills is that you do homework for a whole block basically
I guess Its 3 electives next year technically, but im gonna take french until i graduate

i took drama and graphics in grade 9, drama was sort of fun I guess but im not very good at going up on stage. graphics I actually learnt a bunch of shit but its fuckignj boring. i took drafting this year which is basically drawing blocks on a piece of paper using very precise instruments. sort of interesting I guess but its basically self lead and its very difficult. im getting 39% rn. term ends in like 3 days lol

Fair enough. Other than the fact that the top private colleges usually provide generous financial aid, it doesn't look like OP is aiming for those. In that case, state subsidized education is the best way to go, and debt amounts should correspond to the expectations of income (And fucking common sense).
The only reason I'm going where I'm going (Albeit quite expensive) is because six figure salaries upon graduation is rather more normal here than the industry average, which is around 65k. There's access to elite firms that you just don't get at a lesser university. If you're not the go getter type and are satisfied with the industry average and simply getting a job, definitely go for state-subsidized education.

just drop out its what i did
if you get good GED score and good grades in community college you can transfer to state college, save yourself a few years that would normally be spent in HS
