Set in a fantasy world of magic and sword fighting.
Main character itself can fight in battles too using swords and bows etc.
All Pokémon have the same total base stats except for the legendaries, which would be bosses used by NPCs (so unobtainable for players).
You get one Pokémon at the beginning of the game based on a personality test or something, but other than that they're very hard to obtain.
Would you play it? Would you work on it with me, and help me turn it into an MMORPG? Pokemmo is open source so I guess it wouldn't be too hard using their code, but I know nothing about programming.
We'd start off with only the first 151 Pokémon (but with the attacks and abilities and whatnot from the newest games), and gradually add more the more players start playing the game.

Ok, first of all, I know nothing about pokemon but I hear it alot so I decided to read your post.
2. You know nothing about programming, you have no budget, and it would probably take alot of time to finish it, and by the time your in 10~20% in progress of making it you'd probably give up and will get bored.
Seriously you need something that will fuel you to make a game, like money for instance. or just go download ''RPG MAKER '' software, and just name all the characters there and change there image to pokemons, it's cheap.
No need for programming.

Well I do know something about programming.
Making custom Pokémon roms is actually quite easy because people have made tools for it, which basically are like advanced versions of RPG Maker. I'm familiar with the tools and have already thought out ways to solve (probably) most of the problems I'll run into, so making the custom rom itself won't be a problem. I just don't know anything about JavaScript, which Pokemmo mostly written in, but it's open source so I figured someone who's familiar with JavaScript wouldn't have a hard time making it work for a different rom (they use a Fire Red rom).
I'm gonna start making the rom either way and will be doing it with a GBA rom so it can be played on smartphones. It's probably true that I'm not going to finish it but it'll be fun making it, I love creating things and learning how to make things work and figuring out solutions etc. I've made multiple (simple) bots for games I didn't even like just because I find it really fun to make them. Then if it could be played online that'd be cool.

pokemon: have stats, 4 skills, and level up and obtain new skills by doing so

you can have a limited number in your party
they each preform different roles through their different skills
the only essential difference is typically only 1 pokemon is out at a time, while ff has multiple ones. 1v1 final fantasy gameplay is the same thing as pokemon. theyre very basic rpgs with very basic mechanics
besides, pokemon is already a fantasy world of magic, adding weapons doesn't change that. theres a pokemon thats just literally a sword too.

| Oh damn, turns out the source code I found for 'Pokémmo' is actually the code for an other game that is also called Pokémmo, not the one I thought it was for.
