Sitting in start menu, I hit the start button on Ultimap then my game just freezes. Sometimes it'll just get uber laggy for like 1min then freeze.
My computer specs are Intel i5 @3.10GHZ & 16gb RAM (4gb dual gtx gRAM) Win 7 64x. Fresh reboot too. How can I take the stress off of my system? I need my game to be a bit interactive so I can use filters.

No way around it at the moment. I'm running higher spec than you and I still have to deal with the incredible lag.

There are some things that you can do to make it a little more manageable, such as pausing the process and ultimap stop/starting etc. and tweaking your ultimap settings. You can also reduce your game settings to the lowest level (and) only try to run ultimap at locations in the game that do not require a lot of processing (such as some place that doesn't have a lot of movement etc.). If you can run the target in windowed mode, do that, too.

Another tip to improve performance:
in the task manager set the game's cpu affinity to only 1 cpu (2 max)
and make sure pre-emptive flushing is on
that way the other cpu's have more chance to process all the data before the buffer gets full (once it's full the game will freeze till it's done processing)

Perhaps a lot smaller buffer will work too, (just more choppy) try 256 instead of 4194304

and bind a hotkey to pause/resume
pause ultimap when nothing significant is happening, but when something is about to happen you're interested in press the hotkey and let it happen, then press it again to pause
