Just saw the movie "The Edge of Tomorrow" where a guy is stuck in a sort of Groundhog day loop, every time he dies he respawns. This reminded me of another recent movie, "Source Code".
Do you think they stole this idea from video games, where you can respawn, save progress, etc?

Respawning has been done before, though not always with the characters having any memories between spawning and dying.
I think it was in The Cube, or a movie similar to it where some guy kept killing some other guy who kept respawning. Or maybe he kept on killing a version of himself from the past, I can't really remember.
When I started writing this post there were at least two movies I could think of that had respawning. Now I've started thinking too much about paradoxes and whatnot and forgot what the other movies were.
What I did notice to be done more and more often, are shows that are filmed as if they were reality shows. Parks and Recreation, Modern Family, Reno 911, Summer Heights High, there's even that cartoon with The Hulk that uses this type of 'filming'.
Also, reincarnation is very different from respawning. |
