How do I cheat?

I am trying to add materia onto armor/weapons in Final Fantasy 7. I am using ePSXe 1.9 and when I point to an address and try to change the value it doesn't allow me to change it or (which I think was going about it differently) it would change back if I tried to change the value.


I was following the instructions on this thread "cheatengine. org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=556660&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15&sid=dbba8e60b1b0b1c5fb8a901cde205d30" and it doesn't want to work with me. I did make sure it was using the correct address and now the FF7.exe one shown in the thread.
