Cheat Engine

I'm trying to get good at hacking (single player, not multiplayer) games. But I'm slightly confused as to where to start.

1.If I'm looking to hack a game and write code (rather just changing a specific value like in a trainer) what should I be doing to get there?

2.If I find assembly code in a game (from finding what writes to an address), what can I do with this to understand what its for?

3. Any other tips you'd recommend?

Do the tutorial that comes with Cheat Engine. Study guides and videos on how to complete each step until you understand what you are doing. Start with a simple game to test your skills. Work your way up to more advanced cheats and targets.
