|
|
Hello.
While scanning for some Values in Watch Dogs (64 bit), I noticed that Cheat Engine has Scan Errors on my Multi-Core-CPU.
When I change the affinity to only run CE on 1 core, the errors are gone.
I have only found an old topic from 2008 on this:
cheatengine.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=287222 (can't post URLs yet)
While scanning the most common error was "cheat engine scan error thread 3 access violation".
(which mostly happened while 'compare to first scan results' was active)
I also get Errors while Pointer Scanning with more than 1 CPU Core.
System Info:
- CE 6.4
- Win7 64bit SP1
- Intel Core i7 920 (8 cores)
- 512 GB SSD with more than 350 GB free Disk Space available
- 12 GB of RAM and open end pagefile on the SSD
Is there any way to make CE run better ony my System?
Do I need to check some settings (in CE or windows)?
Or is there an optimized version of CE to run better on Multi-Core-CPUs?

What variable type did you use ?
And if you use the All type, do you have any custom value types installed in cheat engine ?
And is your system overclocked? One of the most common issues is when you overclock your system. CE is one of those apps that will trigger issues on an unstable system, while the normal benchmarks will say it's stable
And have you selected any kernelmode functions in settings ?

4 bytes and 'unknown initial value' (quite a lot of results)
Pointer Scan for any value type will cause an error all the time though.

No custom value types installed - this is a fresh CE installation.

No, it is running in normal mode, where the Win7 OS can underclock it when there is no CPU usage.
(This is the default setting for my CPU and BIOS)

If you mean "Settings > Extra > "Use the following CE Kernel routines ..." then no.
These are all unchecked (default).

I have no idea then.
You also have no online games running in the background ?
I test/develop Cheat Engine on a 8 core (16 with hyperthreading) i7-5960X and don't get those errors.
There also haven't been recent reports about access violations during scans, let alone the pointerscan. (2 different things)
All I can suggest is check things to increase the stability of your system. Perhaps dust has been clogging up and causing it to overheat
Do memory integrity checks. (could be faulty ram that reacts weird when accessed a lot )
And check for software that could potentially interfere with Cheat Engine

Thanks for your answer.
I don't have anything else running, while I scan the watch dogs process.
I even tried to close all other processes and services, which I did not need at the time.
Heat or faulty Memory is not the problem.
I am monitoring the temps and did a recent check on the memory a few weeks ago.
I guess just have to figure this one out myself then.
I will try to find out what is the problem here.
But it is good to know that Cheat Engine is optimized for Multi-Core-CPUs. =)
Thanks for your help.
