This is what happens when you make free cheat tables, apparently you give people license to rip or at least thats what people think.
Sorry for the massive amount of swearing, as you can guess i am pissed and i just wrote whatever came to mind.
unknowncheats.me deviated hall of shame
Dark byte: Read that email from UC, is it true what he says ?. I don't know shit about law but i find it hard to believe i can't claim copyright for something i made with an open source tool when all of it is original and mine.
Does it apply to cheat tables only or trainers made with CE too ?.

The script is obviously yours. I doubt that Dark Byte would claim ownership of any CT files that was made with CE.
It's just stupid. But you will not go to court anyway, so it doesn't matter. Rippers are a parasites and they should be shamed and banned whenever and wherever they are found. Many of our nice contributors have left because of rippers. Really sad.
(Btw don't know what were you expecting from a junk multiplayer cheat site. Multiplayer cheat communities are not like this one and ripping is even more common.)

Maybe i am over-reacting but i am just really pissed off this is the second time my table gets ripped and i don't even post that many. His email is really where i lost it, not something i expected in the least.
Funny thing is someone PM'ed me right after this asking if i can update a table for him and he will even pay....really ?. Don't know if this is someone's idea of trolling me or do people really think i am that terrible.
I need a smoke, damn it

You are not the only one who was screwed by this guy as I see. If you happen to gather more info about him, send a PM to me. It seems he is making a habit out of reposting cheat tables on that site as his own.

I think he meant he did the GUI+packaging into an exe, and you did the hacks. Right after the sentence that you have quoted, i said the forums(including him obviously) will end up in hall of shame depending on how i feel and how severe his offense. The reason i said that is he's not the only one who has ripped my work but i don't enter everyone into hall of shame, omoe/mrantifun hasn't been for one, psych hasn't been(for something else) and countless others, i have been here since 2003 and thats like an eternity in gamehacking world, so i thought he will not do anything after hearing about the hall of shame. Was i wrong.
I knew some people would have a different take on this, like i said i am to blame here so i totally understand. I google'd the guy after he sent me that PM and he said he was 13 on some forums so i basically assumed he was a kid and the reason i was nice in my PMs to him. This wouldn't have happened if i had just been the "asshole" everyone thinks i am and just said "go fuck yourself" to him.
I am actually happy i made this public because now i know what everyone thinks of the situation. I thought his email was ridiculous and everyone would think the same, guess not. I don't apologize for swearing, it doesn't make my point any less valid or my posts prone to being ignored...it is a perfect human response to swear when someone or something pisses you off and i don't see why i would pretend to act nice to a site admin who banned me when i mentioned my work was ripped. But just so you know i didn't call him anything unlike his very confident characterization of my personality.
I will make sure this never happens to me again, ever. So i am not worried, i have vented enough.
But the technicality you are trying to defend him on, you are basically suggesting to everyone it is okay to rip tables because the work you do to make a trainer is yours and the table author can go fuck himself for all the work he may have done to find those offsets and cheats. It is also okay to completely ignore everything else and decide your actions on just one single sentence taken out of context.

Don't get me wrong, I DO think the content of the admin's mail is bullshit because -as I said- he stopped thinking. He probably just picked a few words/sentences here and there as ammunition. What I wanted to say in my previous post, is that if you had put less cursing in that email, then maybe he would have read it seriously.
I agree it's perfectly normal to want to curse when you're pissed, just don't send those to the guy you're arguing against, it's gonna backfire.
Say if your dog shits in your house, you pull its collar and throw it out but you don't prod it with a red-hot iron rod or it's going to bite you back (well depending on the size of the dog). The example might not be the best pick, but point is: sometimes you get better result by not expressing all your rage, especially to idiots with power.

The "taken out of context" bit is why I deleted my post (see below). My argumentation was based on a misunderstanding on my part, my bad.

Call me slowpoke if you want but it took me 10-20 reads of "Still, feel free to do whatever you want with my CT or trainers to benefit your forum, if I was in a bad enough mood the forum might end up in our hall of shame or maybe i will just ignore it" before understanding the first part was a ironical, that's when I decided to thrash my post. You see I was like "if I was in a bad mood", Was? When? Don't understand->toss that part of the sentence.

No worries. And the only regret i have is not swearing in my email, i tried to be polite. The admin of that place has some sort of complex and probably expected me to beg for my account. Never was/is gonna happen. I don't know if tje current admin is the same guy but back in 2005/06 max power(admin at the time) used to be a really nice guy and tried to advertise/bring people from gamehacking.com/ces to his forum. Maybe to one day be an asshole like this ?. I can't believe max power could be like that, but people change. I had that time in mind so the reason they didn't get any swearing from me, just angry email.
Anyway, the guy xenocide has replied to my thread and offered that i can rip his civ 5 table in return. Fucking unbelievable.

If you don't want this crap to happen or you just care too much about scripts that everyone can make, then don't release your stuff..

Do not worry, there is not going to be another table from me unless i am okay with some asshat ripping it and another wise-ass mocking me. I released it because someone requested it and i thought i will be able to contribute something to this place this way.
Also you can copyright a cheat table because it is a derivative work and meets enough requirements for originality at least enough to try your luck at court. I will actually have to call my lawyer to confirm but since you seem to be making statements out of your ass and i am based on a reliable source, you should feel like an idiot for a sec and think before making claims like these

Just to answer your question, most cheat makers are proud of their work and they DO care about it if someone is stealing them. If we would share your attitude and don't care about rippers at all, there would be much less cheat tables, because most of our regular contributors has asked for help with such issues at some point and if we would not care about them, they would stop posting.
So the problem is, that if you want to have free stuff, you should support the guys who are making it and you don't understand this.
