In first / third person shooter games, how do you go about finding a constant value? Values that control how fast a player can walk or run , or how high they could jump? Are these located in the player structure? There's so many values to tamper with, how do you find them?

Well one really simple way (from the user's perspective) is just to speedhack the whole program using CE's speedhack function.

If the game is written using something that's interpreted or compiled on the fly (LUA, .NET, Flash, Java, etc.) then you may be able to dump the player structure's user-readable names+offsets with some sort of decompiling tool for whatever platform or library it is. This is great at showing things that would be hard to find normally.

Or, maybe the speed isn't actually static 100% of the time? Like Borderlands 2 has a "time scale" value, but it's not normal speed the whole time. It changes during non-FMV cutscenes, the slow-motion character intros and such, so that's how I was able to get it even though it's 1.0 through all the normal parts of the game.

ANYWAYS if you know where in RAM the player structure is in given session, you can try to find your x/y/z coordinates and figure out an approximate speed range (like you can estimate that your speed is 10-15 game units), then you can search for values from 10-15, and within a certain RAM range (where the player structure is) to try to narrow down what's actually like that in RAM. Then guess and test.
