How o I make my script check for 1 byte instead of 4

eg.
cmp [eax+33],#66 <--------Checks for 66 but does it in 4 bytes but the value at [eax+33] is just a one byte value, changing it to 4 bytes makes it different in a way that I cannot use it for the purpose I need it for (compare point)
