signing up for the spring, c++ is probably better but it's a night class ;_;

intro to java can be more like intro to OOP

I have no formal experience or training, and quite honestly I feel like java is not as useful as cpp.

yeah, but my recommendation is to start with something basic.

It is more useful to learn programming than to learn a certain language.

Get used to algorithms and objects and you will find it pretty easy to switch languages on demand.

Job market for Java tends to be larger (at least here in the Netherlands), whereas C++ developers get paid slightly better.
