Travel to India, some of the mountainy areas where they have shops are so damn beautiful, and shits really cheap there.

Also, I'm not sure about this bit, but Uruguay recently successfully defended nature. So I think you can grow your own there without pigs knocking on your door begging for some.

I know, but I had my first realization there. This is the kind of horrible suggestion that causes people to go blind. Seriously. In order to sell ethanol in consumer products that haven't been taxed for liquor sales and aren't intended for consumption (eg, AFAIK flavor extracts and such are exempt), manufacturers are required to denature the alcohol. Alcohol is bad enough for you to begin with, you definitely don't want to make a habit out of drinking alcohol that's been deliberately adulterated.

Yeah, you're basically selectively breeding yeast with a higher alcohol tolerance. It will, in fact, continue to get progressively stronger and stronger up to a point - I think that point is roughly 40 proof for most brewing yeasts and a little bit higher for baking yeasts. Wild yeasts are, of course, more variable. The downside is that while you are cultivating the alcohol tolerance, you may well be killing all the yeast with other desirable properties - high flocculation, quick fermentation, etc. Reusing your yeast also means that you're likely to introduce a bunch of dead or dying bacteria into your brew - and when yeast die they basically explode into horrible tasting compounds during autolysis. Of course, if you're making toilet pruno at home, you're probably not too worried about cloudy wine or a few off flavors.
