Which one is the better codec package overall? From what I can tell K-Lite seems to work better for my persona needs. Is installing both packages ideal for maximum video functionality or is it just not worth it?

CCCP + CoreAVC
Then configure MPC to use CoreAVC for MKV/blu-ray stuff.

At this point in time I feel as if its just best to use VLC; no outside codecs required and its just a kick ass program overall.

I prefer MPC. The only reason I use VLC is because I can have it automatically load subtitles from the net, effectively...which I do a lot.

Yeah, I also use VLC. Uses very low resources and plays pretty much all video files you'll ever want to use.

CCCP+MPC both install through the CCCP installer so it's just as easy to install as VLC. Plus if you want to milk out some more video quality you can install other filters/renderers (such as madVR) and stuff to your liking.
