No hard feelings here meant to anyone--either here or its creators but there is something that I'd like to voice. The whole tutorial is written for those who already understand things. First of all it assumes that one has a good command of the English language and I consider this unfair to all those who don't--the internet is international remember 2nd of all it assumes that you are tech savvy. Yes, one can click on a button to help along but then it calls you a 'loser' perhaps this is meant in humor--I assumed it was but it is nevertheless, insulting since not all may see it that way and there is no true indication that it is meant in humor--a smiley would have helped. And even in humor calling someone a loser is not a nice thing. Finally, even if one clicks along, having tried this and that, the assumption is that everything is made so perfectly that it will work along and progress nicely as it should. Since when does software work as such? So here I was not being able to do the first step and went to the next step which suddenly placed me in step no. 3. And here I had 2 questions. -a- what happened to step number 2? and -b-since this software was supposed to take care of the 1st step automatically then why is it not set up the way it is supposed to and has it instead as I had initially had it--nothing changed (the '1000' was not there) and the 'next' button never there the way it is supposed to. Yes, it's free and I am thankful for it and appreciate all the effort that was put into it out of wanting to contribute to the world somehow--nevertheless I feel quite insulted and find this relationship has started sourly. I thank you all to those who took the time to read this long topic.

Never click skip, it's bad as you won't learn from it

Anyhow, step number 1 is the first screen you see. It's the most important step of all. It tells you to click the computer icon and select the tutorial process. If you don't do that, cheat engine can not be used

Step 2 describes how to scan memory
Fill in the value. Make sure the type is correct (it gives some suggestions) and click first scan
Lose health, fill in the new value, click next scan.
Repeat filling in the new value and clicking next scan till it is found

then doubeclick the address, doubleclick the value in the new entry, and fill in 1000

Thank you darkbyte. Step 1 was not the tutorial since that popped u by itself. This would then explain why it went to step 3--not a good sign since there was no way of me knowing the tutorial was step one confusing me there and then. Step 2 may think it's describing how to scan memory but do consider one thing--the word neither the word scan nor memory is mentioned.
The software has 3 parts--left, right and bottom. The left starts with nothing on it and r-clicking produces no choices. The right side is all greyed out meaning there is nothing for you to do there on your own. You are asked to put in a value of '1000'. There are 2 boxes that have the word 'value'. The 1st next to the word 'hex' which I assumed is where the 1000 value should be placed and then you see it under 'scan type' which the words already written in the box say 'exact value'. But as mentioned both are greyed out.
Below that you have a little red arrow, which produces nothing if u click on it. And "Address manually'. Here finally a box where you can input something. But guess what, It has 'Address' not value, description, not value. and then one may guess to try and click on 'pointer' where you can change the number visible, "0" to something and hope this is what is meant by value (which it turns out not to be. SO here you have it, absolutely no place to put in the value of 1000.
Go to the top menu--"File" gives you no such place, "Edit --> Settings" gives you no such place as neither do Table, D3D and Help.
So when you say "Fill in the value" where exactly does one do so? Obviously something is wrong since it is greyed out--hence why the 'loser' is insulting and the problem is not with the person trying to use it but the design of it. Anyhow, thanks for helping me here and your advice would be appreciated

start the tutorial from the beginning.

Follow step 1 closely so the right part becomes enabled

AHA--you see the 1st time I clicked on the top left icon to select a process to open nothing happened--and yes, I can guarantee that I did do such a thing--including trying next icon, the open folder icon. As to why it didn't work the first time I have no clue--is it because on my 1st trial the wizard opened by itself? who knows. Anyhow, thanks for letting me try once again. I had given up on it. -----update ------
nope still in trouble. I got here:
"Step 2. Exact value scanning (PW=090453). now that you have opened....next step. You see at the bottom of this window.....gets decreased"
"To get to the next step you have to find this value and change it to 1000"
What? "You have to find THIS value. It forgot to mention what 'this' is. Is it perhaps the "(PW=090453)"? OK let me then open once again the 'Select a process to open" icon and see if there is this number, "(PW=090453)" BUT, no such number is anywhere. I can not go to 'first scan' because I am not there yet. So yes, I missed something somewhere but I can't see it.

++Methos is correct--you should be commended for your patience. But b4 I start sounding like an idiot again pls let me explain. From your POV u r convinced i am the problem--and as much as this may be true (since so many others have not had my problem I would assume) I also believe I am also not the problem. So let's see.
The 1st thing it says is: Click on the open process icon. I did that. It then says, When the process window is open 'find this tutorial...select it and click OK"
Error number 1. There is no 'OK' button. There is an 'Open' button. Let us assume that 'Open' is what is meant by 'OK'. Done. I click on 'Open'
Consider now that the tutorial exe was selected so it is this that will open. It then says that on top of the CE window the process name will be shown. Yes, it is and its name is: '00000S28-Tutorial-i386.exe' I am assuming now that this is already a mistake for why would I want to work on the tutorial exe. Nevertheless I proceed by clicking 'next on the tutorial window as I am told.
this now brings me to step2 and the problem is as described.

Now that you have opened the tutorial with CE lets get on with the next step.

You see at the bottom of this window the text Health:xxx
Each time you....decreased [Yes I see this value)

To get to the next step you have to find this value and change it to 1000.

As mentioned what is "this"

Let me explain my problem here further. If I say to you, "Do you like this one or that one?" Do you know what 'this' or 'that is? No, you can't since I haven't defined what 'this' or 'that' is--I haven't defined the subject (or object). If you can see me then you would know by what I am pointing at. If you can't see me then I have to define what I am referring to. Hence I can not say, 'Do you like this?' I must say, 'Do you like this shirt' Now you know what I am talking about.
Therefore my only connection here in this case, is the only subject referred to just 1 sentence b4 this one was,"the health:100" and the 'Hit me' button.
]Directly, what the language within this box, is actually asking me is, to change this value within the tutorial window (not on CE). Yes, logic would imply this is not what is meant but the English in it is actually saying this. Just so you know.]
So now I do not have what 'this' is--the object (or subject of the sentence)
With my only choice being 'Health100.' as to what 'this' is.
on CE I am now supposed to find (guess) somewhere this digit, this 'value' of 100. For it's asking me to find it and change it. I can't find it. I see the number 100 nowhere. But since it makes a reference to 'Exact value' am I supposed to type in '100' in this box and click on 'new scan'? Assume so. Done. My results are a total of 51 with a value of 100. 24 of them green and 27 black with some going on and off in red at random.
It now tells that if I don't know which one it is (Of course I don't know which one it is the address is all random numbers and the values are all 100. So how in god's name am I supposed to know this.--and once again it hasn't defined what 'it' is.) It also tells me that if I don't know to click on 'Hit me" I did so and nothing I mean nothing changed. And the 'next' button can't be used either.
My dear friend you may be showing a lot of patience but I hope you realize I am as well. Thank you once again. Listen BTW I appreciate your time and effort in all this, I really do. No need to waste more of your time if you're not up to it. But it would be nice if you acknowledged why I fail to understand what is going on here.
To me it would have been simpler--or more into my level of understanding if I could just point to the folder where the game is and then let the software do the rest--but obviously I don't know anything about programming to know if this is at all possible. But I know there are game trainers whereby all you have to do is run the trainer and then just press whatever key(s) you want once your playing. Certainly a much better option (2 seconds of one's time as opposed to I don't know how ling this would take.) Why then not use a trainer for my game (Sleeping Dogs via STEAM)? All the ones I found are super filled with trojans/viruses and the one I did mange to find that doesn't have any doesn't work.
