How do I cheat?

Greetings,
I am a fairly new hacker (well, at least as far as anything that requires me to look codes by myself and not just tinker with values). I am trying to hack the game(s) Megaman Battle Network 5 and also may do the same for Megaman Battle Network 6.

I'm trying to increase the Shielding capacity of the LifeAura Chip, which normally has defense capabilities set at 200. I'd like to increase it to 300-- if not more; however, I have no idea how to go about doing this.

The thing is the defense number of this chip does not show until you're engaged in battle and use the chip. Only then will it display the number underneath the character.

I'd also like to modify the damage of chips too. Can anyone help me out please? Thank you.
