normally I wouldn't use the cyndaquil/mareep evolutions because they're pretty overused but I wanted to do an all johto run.
I thought I'd use sunflora for the last slot, but sunflora is kind of shitty. johto y your pokemon suck

all the other versions had the same content as first gen plus more. So.... Really, any of the later versions should be considered an improvement.....

Gen 1 originally had 190 pokemon meaning that nearly half of the johto pokemon are for all intents and purposes, the same as kanto pokemon. the development for gold and silver started in 1997 but was only pushed back in order to make the games work better with the gameboy color, meaning that the other 60 johto pokemon were created before gen 1 even came out in the united states. Also they were created by the same people who worked on rby.
hoenn was the first batch of pokemon that didn't "match" the other two.

Considering the end you're working towards is so incredibly hard to reach if you start from scratch, it's not odd most people give up halfway through. I know I did. I'm currently playing Super Mario 3D Land, which is awesome. Also bought the new Donkey Kong, which is ok.

You know what they should do?
Instead of making remakes of the old games, just make new games but with only the first 151 pokémon. I doubt anyone would care about the region and characters (NPCs) not being the same as in the anime.
The remakes (Fire Red, Soul Silver etc) are nice but the true fans have played the original Red and Silver versions like a bazillion times already. Even with the added content it doesn't really feel like a new game. You already know what to do and where to go most of the time.
A game with a whole new world and story and the new features from the new games but with the old pokémon, would feel new yet still nostalgic.

I finished the whole thing. I'm glad I did because I can say that I played through the entire game and it is thoroughly and honestly inferior to the old games that I love.

Fuck man, I don't even want a new region, I just want a direct sequel to RBY or GSC. Same region, basically the same pokemon living there, different story and starting in a different city. Just like what they did with Black and white 2. That's what they should have done to begin with instead of remakes. The last time they made a new region it was garbage.

You only really finish the game when you have all Pokemon that can be registrable in the Pokédex. You get recognition for that in the game as well, so without that achievement you haven't finished the entire game. That was the point I was trying to make. If you have EVERY pokemon on there, legitimately, then kudos. To me that's an almost impossible goal to reach, yet it's what I attempt every time I pick it up. Getting a couple of Pokémon and beating the Pokémon league is easy as shit.
