| Hear about the coronation of the Dutch king on the news? Was wondering if it was considered newsworthy in faraway countries such as the USA?

Cool. And I don't mind the monarchy. The Dutch people are cold people by nature, but somehow on (now) King's Day, they all come together to celebrate. Although I must admit that the position of king or queen isn't really needed anymore in today's society. But the beauty of it, is that the newly crowned king is quite aware of this. He even said the following in his speech (very roughly translated):
"...The people can exist without its king, but a king can not exist without its people..."
I was so sure that Denmark was part of Europe. Still cool to see though.

In Belgium this would never happen, we all either hate or don't give a fuck about the royal house.

Yeah we really don't. I'm not even sure why. They're just really likable people. The Dutch king did an interview about a week ago, where they asked him how he would like people to address him. He stated:
"I prefer if people just address me however they want. If they want to call me Willem, then call me Willem. I'm a human being just like them."
During this, his wife just nodded and smiled when he said this, looking very pleased and genuinely agreeing with what he said. And today they did a tour on a boat after the coronation, where they were supposed to stay on the boat and complete the tour. Armin van Buuren (popular Dutch DJ) was doing his music thing at a party on the shore, and the king instructed the boat to get to the shore, so he could shortly join in on the festivities with his family, and say hi to Armin, even though this wasn't supposed to be part of the tour. The mayor strongly advised against it, but he just didn't a give shit and wanted to say hi.

No probs, still cool to see other countries reporting about our small country. We even had a lot of high profile guests, including your royal family I believe, and even the Japanese princess.
EDIT: Video of the king, queen, and princesses getting off the boat to greet everyone. The king is the one with the slightly orange hair, the queen the woman with the blond hair, and the girls with blond hair are the princesses. http://www.zie.nl/video/m1nze9pfa6qc (You might get some commercial at first, but you should be able to click the 'X' on the top right to skip it).
