So, can someone suggest a good all-round laptop? Meaning cheap, fast and with a good graphics card that actually lets me play games more recent than 2005?

Never going to happen. You can get a so-so notebook for that much but nothing of power. You're going to need to look closer to 1000USD at least.

inb4 LOLGAMINGLAPTOP. I figure in 5 years if it has not broke for any reason it will still be great. Plus I can play some lighter games on it for the next 5 years.

you can get fine laptop with 2gb of ram. look at toshiba series
