Realized John = Jesus.

Same initials (JC)
John was mocked by two people when getting executed, Jesus was mocked by two thieves.
Both were convicted by the state for a crime they didn't commit.
Both were hated minorities of their time, John being a black man during the depression, Jesus a Jew during the 1st century.
Both performed miracles such as healing the sick, and were executed by their own will.
Both must take carry another persons pain in order to heal them. With Coffey, he must bear their sickness for a period of time. With Chist he bore our sins.
Those healed by John (The mouse and Hanks character) had 'eternal life'. Those who believe in Jesus 'shall not perish but have eternal life'.
