I go to the comic book store all the time and the only expensive comics are the giant "volume" ones that combine issues. Brand new comic book issues can be $6 tops.
Also I'm not sure what you mean by rare ones. Generally when it comes to comics, the only thing rare is certain issues with special cover-art. Or unpublished or "limited copies" stuff, which would go for hundreds to thousands... but isn't worth caring for unless you want a solid copy. There's also the super old stuff that's in mint condition. But again, only valuable to collectors.

Are there no comic book stores where you live? Because at all the ones I've been to there's been isles full of comics nobody's ever heard of.
Also yeah, volumes are expensive no matter what comic it is.
