I am a newb and don't want to get banned from other games, I was wondering which games you would recommend for a newb to start off with testing my cheat engine skillz

Old console games are usually very easy. Find a good SNES/NES emulator (snesgt.exe for SNES; fceux.exe for NES), then load up your favorite game/rom.

Have you tried first the Tutorial of Cheat Engine? Before you try other games.

I also have to suggest the Cheat Engine tutorial. Couple that with youtube, and you will learn more.

I have completed the cheat engine tutorial, I am looking for free games that could be used as practice for a beginner

1-Outlaws by Lucasarts. Do a godmode and unlimited spare ammo hack. I have an answer sheet for that one.
2-Any singleplayer game you like. It will be harder but the motivation and reward is much higher imo.
3-Mutant, but it's not a free game (costs $1). Same hacks as outlaws, easy but harder than outlaws. I also have an answer sheet.
