				| I'm planning to erase some hard drives before selling/disposing/throwing them and think of using DBAN. The problem is that I saw on the site that DBAN does not guarantee the data is removed. Is DBAN effective? If not, can you suggest a batter one that boots from CD/DVD.
I also can't decide from Gutmann or DoD 5220. Sigh...

If I use software to erase a drive, are the data completely impossible to recover, even if they manage to open the disk and perform hardware-based data recovery? There are those pros who can recover damaged hard drives.

				| I use partition wizard. No idea how effective it is, never been worried someone might find something on my computer. But if you are paranoid and just tossing them anyway, I imagine a sledgehammer would take care of things nicely. | |

				| I suggest you write random data to every sector multiple times to make it harder _________________

				| Check with your harddrives manufacturer. A lot of them have software for this type of thing on their website(s) to null a drive multiple times etc. I know for sure that Western Digital has software for their drives to do it. _________________

				| Another thing you can do is use CCleaner. It has the ability to securely erase stuff. | |
