Nah, 6850 is most you'll ever need probably, even a 7770.

GTX 650 is a decent card and pretty compatible with most set-ups, with its low wattage and stuff. So your friend wouldn't need to upgrade any other hardware to use it.

My GTX 240 (which needs an upgrade badly) can run most games on medium with at least 30 fps... so I can only imagine that a 650 could do medium-high just fine.
